Language Development Schools are Department of Education and Training schools that cater for children with a Specific Language Impairment (SLI). The LDS classes are all located on the site of a mainstream school. This enables the children to receive a specialised programme in a regular school environment. Peel LDS provides specialised language intervention on an intensive basis. The programme is for an identified population of children with average intelligence whose academic and social performance is limited by seriously delayed/disordered language development.
Each class, has approximately 10-15 students, a teacher and an education assistant. Peel LDS values the experienced education assistants who work alongside the teachers to ensure the students receive a far greater level of support. All classes have additional specialist support from a Speech Pathologist and a Language Support teacher.
Peel LDS and their partner schools create inclusive school environments where students participate in whole school activities such as assemblies, sports carnivals and incursions. With shared playground facilities and duty rosters and staffrooms there is a seamlessness to what we do.
